U.S. Masters Swimming, the national governing body for adult competitive and fitness swimming, will host it’s 2012 Summer Nationals in Omaha, Neb. The USMS Summer Nationals will follow the USA Swimming Olympic Trials that are scheduled for June 25 through July 2, 2012. The national championship meet will be contested in the same competition pool as the USA Swimming Olympic Trials. The four-day Masters event will begin on Thursday, July 5 and conclude on Sunday, July 8, 2012. “To be able to cheer for the Olympic hopefuls, and then to swim in the same pool as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin and Dara Torres will be a memorable experience for Masters swimmers,” says USMS Executive Director Rob Butcher. “Our Summer Nationals will be a showcase opportunity for U.S. Masters Swimming. In addition to 1,000-adult Masters competitors, we expect numerous past Olympians will want to compete too.” “Omaha is extremely pleased to host both the USA Swimming Olympic Trials and U.S. Masters Swimming Summer Nationals,” says Omaha Sports Commission CEO Harold Cliff. “Masters swimmers have tremendous passion for swimming so it will be a lot of fun for them to support the Olympic Trials and then have their own competition.” Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle said the four-day event will bring much more than exciting swimming competition to Omaha. “The Masters Summer Nationals will provide tremendous economic benefits to Omaha, bringing more than 1,000 swimmers from across the country to our community,” says Mayor Suttle. “Hosting the Olympic Swim Trials, followed by the Masters Summer Nationals, will once again position Omaha as one of America’s great communities for sporting events.” "When the Olympic Trials were in Omaha in 2008, the town was electric," says Nebraska Local Masters Swimming Committee Chair Erin Sullivan. "We are excited to be a part of this event and are looking forward to making it one of the best Nationals." More coverage for the Summer Nationals will be made available at usms.org. • 1) July 8th 2012 is a sunday. 2) Cost depending - I'm probably going to go watch the olympic trials.... does anyone know where we can put together an ad-hoc practices in Omaha? We could get a bunch of masters there to watch the trials then go straight into LCM Nationals.
  • I will be there for both. I'm sooooo excited that I can't STAND it.
  • Yea, so? Nationals have fallen on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday over the years. Oh absolutely - that was not the problem: I just wanted to clarify this: The four-day Masters event will begin on Thursday, July 5 and conclude on Sunday, July 9, 2012.

Thanks for catching my date error. It has been corrected to Sunday, July 8th. We are planning on having some practice time available in area pools during trials for Masters swimmers. Further, on July 3 and July 4, we will have 3 hours each day in the competition pool. Our time will depend on the training schedule of the national team.

Thanks for posting this info., Mark. :applaud: Hey, Mark, while I'm at it, I would like to :applaud: you for your running commentary at Nationals, this year. I just joined USMS this year, so the 2010 SCY Nationals was my first. You definitely made it entertaining, even for my non-swimming husband who sat in the stands all day for the last three days. We both enjoyed it most when you were at the mic. Thanks! Cheers! :chug: Elaine
  • I cant wait until 2012!!! I live in Omaha Ne. and I am training for the 2012 Olympic Trials!! Its Awesome that the Nationals will be at the Qwest Center!! Everyone will be shocked how huge it is.. I know the people of Omaha, Nebraska are very proud and are so excited to host the countrys best swimmers..
  • I've got a question about the meet schedule in Omaha. I see the order of events is listed under Schedule 4 on page 30 of this file (www.usms.org/.../part1.pdf) but for the 400 freestyle there is a detail missing. Which gender is on Day 3 and which is on Day 4? :chug:
  • Looks like an omission in Schedules 3, 4, and 5. For the 500 Free, women and men switch days for the next schedule. Schedule 2 has men on Day 3, So the men should be on Day 3 for Schedule 4 (2012 Summer Nationals).

  • During the Championships Committee meeting in Mesa, we shared the following updates: * The Olympic Trials are June 25 through July 2, 2012. Tickets for the Trials will go on sale June 25, 2011. To start off, they will only be selling full session 8 day tickets. We are working with USA Swimming and the Omaha Sports Commission to offer some 4 day ticket packages for June 29 - July 2. We will let you know when this becomes available. * USMS has partnered with the Omaha Sports Commission and reserved 600 hotel rooms per night during our Summer Nationals at preferred rates. We are creating a special hotel website with all the hotel availability and will make available on the usms.org site the last week in June. The Marriott Courtyard in downtown Omaha - 2 blocks or .3 miles from the Qwest Center - will be our host hotel. All the hotels within a 4 mile drive of the Qwest Center (where the Summer Nationals will take place) provide complimentary shuttle service. Additionally, hotels provide complimentary pick up/drop off to the Omaha airport. There really is not much of a need for a rental car. If you do drive, there will be a charge to park at the Qwest Center. * All events for our Summer Nationals will take place in the Olympic Trials pool - yes the very same pool that Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Dara Torres, Natalie Coughlin, etc. will compete in to make the Olympic team - which is a 10 lane state of the art Myrtha pool. This 10 lane Myrtha pool is also the very same pool type that will be in London 2012. The warm up pool - also the same pool used by the Olympians - is an L shaped 8 lane by 50 meters, and 6 lanes by 25 meters. The starting blocks and timing system will be the same ones used for the Olympic Trials. We will have the overhead JumboTron in the arena showing video swimming of our Summer Nationals. We will also produce our daily Summer Nationals highlight show for usms.org * On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 3 we will have a swim clinic with Olympians Josh Davis, Rowdy Gaines and many other Olympians. You will be able to sign up for the clinic when you register for Nationals next Spring. * The lower bowl of the arena will be open for general seating during our Summer Nationals. * You will be able to bring light snacks and drinks into the arena with you for our Summer Nationals. The Qwest Center concession stands will be open during our Nationals. * Those entered in the Summer Nationals will be able to warm up in the competition and warm up pools on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4. * The Nebraska Local Masters Swimming Committee (LMSC) is our host LMSC. They are planning social activities for Thursday, July 5 and Saturday, July 7. Certainly as more details are made available, we will share with you.
