Split Requests at Indy LC Nationals

For which type of events will a split notification form be required and when? The rulebook 105.2.2 has not changed, but at several USMS Nationals lately splits were automatically submitted for Top Ten and Records - but not always to the USMS database. Please advise, especially with regard to lead-off relay splits. Thanks. Mary
  • Splits will automatically be considered for World and USMS records and for Top 10, except for splits from individual backstroke events and the 50 split from the backstroke leg of the 400 medley relay (and except for DQs, of course). Individual split request forms must be submitted for those backstroke splits prior to each race so officials can verify that the swimmer did a legal backstroke finish at the requested split distance. At this point, automatic split reports have not been entered in the data base. Kathy Casey, Chair USMS Rules Committee

Kathy I did request the application for both my 50 back and 100 back lead off from the meet referee and was informed that this was not necessary. In fact I asked on three separate occasions about this and was told the same thing each time. I did in fact swim Top 10 times in both events as a lead off on relays. What do I need to do make sure these times count in the database or is it in fact automatic? Thanks
  • I have forwarded your problem on to the USMS Records recorder. You knew, correctly, that you needed to submit individual split requests for initial backstroke distances so the officials could verify that you peformed a legal finish at the initial split distance requested.
