I just started swimming masters and this spring will be my first Nationals. It seems there are no 400 medley/free or 800 free relays at Nationals. Can someone please verify this? Does this mean that the National records for these events are set at regular "in season" meets?
Thanks in advance.
Also, in case someone from a USMS Committee of some sort is reading this, WHY are there no 400 or 800 relays at Nationals?
I know that there are no recognized World Records for 400 or 800 relays, but that can't be the reason for the exclusion of these relays at our National meet. After all, there are no World Records at all for the yards format, and yet we hold a SCY National Chamionship. Just curious.
The meet's long enough as it is. Adding those relays would get us out of there at 8:00 each night. And that would mean much less beer drinking for the Smiths.
Anyone else notice that it won't be until 2010 that the men's 500 is not on the last day of the meet? 2005 Ft. Lauderdale had the men's 500 on the first day. That worked out great!
Oh well. Until then, me on sunday afternoon of nationals: :dedhorse:

Jeff, that's because it's a silly event that no one actually enjoys except for a few masochistic souls ... blech!
Actually, that was day 2, Friday. The 1000 and 1650 were on day 1, Thursday.
like i said, 2005 Ft. Lauderdale had the men's 500 on the first day. :p first day that matters anyways :)

don't be a hater.
In Colonies Zones, all relays are offered at the Zone Championship meets. This works out well since there is better team participation at Zones than at Nationals.
Since there are no official 800 or 400 relays at Nationals, are there time trials offered? We would like to do our relay at a meet where we are shaved to break a record, not at Regionals.
Ok, so shave for Regionals. The 800 and 400 relays are actually relatively new additions to the Masters rule book. There were only 200s at all for a long time. We have not added the longer relays because of the added time demands (as previously stated) to an already long meet. Perhaps the championship committee will at some point consider swapping or adding relays from year to year, but that will be in the distant future, if at all.
So, if you want to set relay records in 400 or 800 relays, taper and shave for Regionals. Cheers!
