Anti-doping rules for Masters??

I have a question regarding the use of some medications. I noted in a recent story that an American masters swimmer who was swimming at a meet in Australia was asked to supply urine for a drug test when he broke a world record. Now...I'm not expecting to break any world records at the FINA World Meet in Stanford in 2006...but, upon reading the list of prohibited drugs on the FINA website I noted that B2 agonists and all corticotropic steroids are probhibited without a "Therapeutic Use Exemption". I personally use both albuterol (a B2 agonist) and triamcinolone (a corticosteroid) inhalers because I have asthma. I'm assuming that would be considered a "therapeutic use" since they are prescribed by my doctor for a documented medical problem. My questions are: are urine samples going to be tested at the 2006 World meet? Since my chances of breaking any world records are pretty much nill....should I bother with getting a "Therapeutic Use Exemption" for the 2006 meet? maybe I shouldn't even bother? But....if someone...someone who MIGHT actually break a world's record, is an asthmatic and uses "prohibited" substances and needs a Therapeutic Use Exemption....how would they go about getting one? Thanks.... Sally Guthrie::confused:

Sally, You are lucky you do not take even more restrictive asthma drugs. Probably 20% of Masters swimmers have asthma, many taking far worse than you are taking. I guess you did not get the punchline of the article. April 1st! April Fools Day, a joke on Tall Paul.
  • Well...Stupid me!...yes, I did miss the punch line. Ha Ha... Sally

Yeah...... but if they start testing for last night's brews in his urine he's toast ! We may need to assign someone to follow the Evil one around after his events. John Smith :)
