Check In

Does anyone know if there will be call-in or internet check-in? I live an hour away from the meet. Since I have been out of competition since December, I guess I missed the Arizona change to check-in. From reading recent posts and then actually reading the meet information, I found out that I need to check in Wednesday for Thursday's events. I don't want to have to drive an hour each way just to check-in. In addition, I am not swimming Friday. Will I be able to check in Thursday for Saturday's events if there is no call-in or internet check-in? While I appreciate that we will have heat sheets available because we are checking in the day before, isn't this a bit much to ask? Isn't it a lot to ask the people actually swimming Wednesday to check in ALL their friends who are not swimming that day but are swimming on the next day? It doesn't seem fair to that person to have that much responsibility, and it is a bit nerve racking to have to rely on someone else to check-in for you. Perhaps given the low turnout mentioned in the forum and on the meet information page, the meet sponsor can consider just pre-seeding the meet and not require deck seeding? I think the championship committee should reconsider the day before check-in requirement. How about allowing day before (or even two-day before or all event) check-in but close check-in an hour before all the events start for that day. That gives those day commuters time to check in on their first day or on a day in which they didn't compete the day before and gives those who changed their minds the opportunity to check-out if they decide not to swim. Then, we won't necessarily have a heat sheet for the first event or so, but could have full heat sheets available for the remainder of the events. If we are saying it is impossbile to have heat sheets printed with same day check-in, how are USA meets able to have heat sheets posted for all events before the meet starts, based on same day scratching (during warm-up)? Why not USMS too?

Hey Andrea, I'll let the meet experts respond to the specifics for Rutgers, but I have to tell you that check-in at Tempe was a breeze and it was GREAT to have heat sheets each day. For the first time I knew when my friends and teammates were swimming and was able to cheer for them. And my parents and other spectators up in the stands had a great deal more fun as they could watch with interest the swimmers going for records, interesting match-ups, etc. - Maria
