We will be swimming the 6th event in Tempe. To keep the distance day of the meet from being too long, we will swim the 1000 and 1650 as mixed events (men and women swimming together). These events will be seeded by time only. Psych sheets will be posted in the next few days. See you in a few weeks. Mark Gill Meet Director mark.gill@asu.edu
  • The 400 IM will be seeded slowest to fastest by entry time for each sex regardless of age.
  • Jeff, while personally I would rather be racing against people my own speed, there are many out there who would not consider this a national championship unless they were racing against people in their own age group and not just the clock. Next year is a rules year, and if you still feel the same way, have your LMSC propose it and it will be considered at Convention. michael

Local meets where I swim are always seeded strictly according to time, which is the most practical way to do it when there are fewer swimmers spread out over the age groups. However, when I swim in a nationals I prefer to have the heats seeded according to age (except for the longer events where this is not practical).
  • Originally posted by NKMD Are we swimming the 400 IM by age-group or by time? Personally, I believe that is how everyevent should be seeded. I would love to be able to swim against some people that are not in may age group. That is not to say my age group (25-29) isnt fast enough, but to have an entire heat of people who, say, are under 1:56 in the 200 IM would be fun to watch and much more competitive. Someone swimming in an age group where he is the fastest by four seconds, regardless of distance, probably would swim a faster time if able to compete against a younger -- or older -- swimmer whose time is within range of him. I always swim faster against a person, instead of a clock. But I presume it is being done the way it is currently done because "younger" people don't want to be embarrassed because they were beaten by an "older" person in an event. Or vice versa. Sometimes it's not best to upset the apple cart. Sometimes the apple cart just needs to be moved a few feet for a different view.
