Will the competition pool (or any other pool in the area) be open this weekend (May 11 and 12) so we can get in and swim? Even getting in on lap swimming would be good. Thanks for your help.
The competition pool will be open on Monday, from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. We will be preparing the Duke Kahanamoku pool for Nationals the weekend before the meet.
Another pool to go to that is nearby is the Manoa pool,
which is about 10 minutes from the University, further away from
Waikiki.
Here are directions to Manoa Pool:
From H1 freeway, or from Waikiki, head up University Ave (towards mtns) it turns into Oahu Ave, about 100 yards past the 5th stop light.
At first stop sign (it¹s a 5 way stop) go almost straight (a little to the right), go about 200 yards on the right is a big parking lot and you¹ll see the tennis courts and a construction site. The pool is just below the tennis courts. 25 yard pool. No fee. Saturday and Sundays hours are 1-4 pm and M, W,Th,
F 11:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
There also is another pool, called the Palolo Pool, which is a bit
further away, and would have similar hours.
Directions to Palolo Pool:
In a nutshell, you should ask directions from your hotel how to get to Wailae Avenue. It is a very busy road with a lot of shops and businesses, so the front desk should be able to direct you to this street. Or just find it on a map.
Once you get on Waialae, you will be climbing a hill. You will pass St. Louis School and Chaminade University on your left. About 1/8mile from the schools, you will pass a 76 Gas Station on your left. Immediately after the 76 gas station you will see Palolo Ave. on your left. It is before McDonalds.
Turn Left onto Palolo Avenue.
Once you turn left onto Palolo Avenue, you will go straight for about
1.5 or 2 miles, and the pool will be on your right. You can see it from the road. Park right in that lot.
Here is the number for information: 1-808-733-7362.
Manoa Swimming Pool:
1-808-988-453-7556.
I know that Palolo has no lane lines, and part of the day it is long
course and part of the day it is short course. It has never been crowded when I
have gone. I have never been to the Manoa Pool to swim, so I don't know
much about it.
Hope this all helps!
