The Howdy Honda Cap 2K is an excellent destination open water swim in Austin, TX. The weekend is manageable without a rental car and Austin is a Southwest Airlines carrier destination... personally I am not a big fan of SWA however it can be relatively cheap if your flight is direct. The Cap 2K is hosted by Sandy and Keith Bell of American Swimming Association. we had a relatively mild winter in texas but similar to the rest of the nation, texas hasn't shaken free of winter yet. the 11th annual howdy honda cap 2K is likely the coldest one of record... nevertheless this is texas in may. the morning air temperature began in the high 40s and quickly reached the 80s for a beautiful day. race water temperature was likely the high 60s... brisk for texans and, again, likely a record low for the howdy honda cap 2K.
if you like destination swims, you're crazy not to have austin, TX and the howdy honda cap 2K on your bucket list. i will have more info shortly BUT do look for this race in early may 2014.
