This was the 6th time I swam the LRLH, and the 4th variation of the course which has varied from 7.8 miles to 5.85 miles to today's 10k. The race has also been swum in both directions; N-S and S-N. Today we started at the 79th street Boat Basin Marina and swam north, under the George Washington Bridge and another 1.3 miles to the Inwood Canoe Club on Dykman street. The weather was perfect, partly cloudy, warm and a tail wind. Enrollment maxed-out at 250 and the handicappers did a pretty good job assigning swimmers to the 7 waves; the goal being to have everyone finish within +/- 30 minutes of each other. The swim is current assisted, and the winning times were slightly under 1.5 hours. Many out of towners use this event to get their feet wet in the Manhattan Hudson and it is a good swim to familiarize oneself with an exciting section of the MIMS course (even if you are heading in the other direction) Adding to the day's enjoyment: I got to meet a couple of forumites and catch up with friends from Niagara that I haven't seen in a while. Of course, CIBBOWS swimmers were present in force as well as all the other NYC Swim regulars. Sorry you missed this one? You should be!
