This swim, in addition to being a premier inland lake swim for Pacific Northwest, raises money to teach children and adults how to swim.
:)
A missed turn in the road took me to Sandpoint. I was astounded! Beautiful lake - many estuaries, bights and inlets, attracting migratory birds (birdwatchers will be familiar with the names Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille).
The Flathead L. swim (Mission Valley Aquatics) is the same day, and registration is open now:

Though Sandpoint and Polson are not exactly next door to each other, they are close enough that I wish they'd hold these on separate weekends back-to-back. I did the Polson swim in 2009 and it was great fun with excellent people/atmosphere (race report here forums.usms.org/blog.php it'd be even better to bookend a week's trip to that area with each swim if they were scheduled thus.
