I just returned from Sitka Alaska after participating in the Sitka Adventure swim. This was the first year the swim was offered and is a fundraising event for the American Diabetes association. The swim featured a 5k one way swim or a round trip of 10k, water temp was 52-54 F, some chop, and had a current assist one way and part of the return. Organization was good, great group of volunteers, good banquet after the swim and except for the cost of travel a 99.00 entry fee very reasonable. I would recomend this swim to anyone who wants to do some long distance in cold water and enjoys helping a great cause. Next year they are planning on getting the swim sanctioned by USMS.
This looks terrific! And what a challenge - 6 miles in low 50s water. But swimmers are steadily pushing the barrier lower (not so easy to swim in hotter water). Should interest several who this year are going for the Triple Crown (so next year in Alaska!).
