Your Open Water season just got longer! Arizona will host a series of Open Water swimming competitions in 2009 on May 2 at Saguaro Lake, June 6 at Lake Pleasant, September 19 at Saguaro Lake, October 17 at Lake Pleasant and November 15 at Tempe Town Lake. All events will have 2k and 4k distances available. The events will be run by DCB Extreme Adventures with open water veteran Mark Gill serving as Race Director. All events will be officially sanctioned and open to both registered Age Group and Masters swimmers. So mark your calendar and plan to come on out to Arizona for some fun and sun in the desert. You should come to the SCY State meet at the end of March. It should be a good one indeed.
BTW, Saguaro Lake and Lake Pleasant have excellent water quality. I've gone to both many times for boating, jetskiing, and wakeboarding; they are great venues for open water swims.
For the rest of you reading this thread, AZ is a great place to swim. Come on out sometime when it's cold in your part of the country...
I'd like to, Doug, but I'm still thinking Depression and stashing my spare money in the mattress (I'm up to $4.75 and some loose change at the moment). Hopefully, in the fall for one of the SCM shindigs.
I'm hoping to do better raising money panhandling on the streets of Denver this spring and summer.
