Your Open Water season just got longer! Arizona will host a series of Open Water swimming competitions in 2009 on May 2 at Saguaro Lake, June 6 at Lake Pleasant, September 19 at Saguaro Lake, October 17 at Lake Pleasant and November 15 at Tempe Town Lake. All events will have 2k and 4k distances available. The events will be run by DCB Extreme Adventures with open water veteran Mark Gill serving as Race Director. All events will be officially sanctioned and open to both registered Age Group and Masters swimmers. So mark your calendar and plan to come on out to Arizona for some fun and sun in the desert. I would, except that I have family living in Tucson, where both my children were born. You may also note that I didn't say I wouldn't do a ski race in Kuwait, if given the opportunity.
Probably will swim in at least one meet in AZ in 2009, just not the open-water ones.
Cool. Sorry for the snippy response to your smart-a** comment. As Doug said, we've actually got some great lakes for swimming.
FYI: next time you're in the Middle East, check out skiing in Dubai (http://www.skidubai.com/).
