This weekend was my third trip in four years to the Cascade Lakes Swim Series at Elk Lake, just west of Bend, Oregon, sponsored by Central Oregon Masters. It's a great event, every time.
This year I couldn't make the Friday evening and Saturday morning swims, but it was still worth the trip to swim Sunday's 5K and 1K swims. Elk Lake is beautiful and clear, and the temperature in late July or early August is always 68-70F (perfect in my book).
Previously I've camped, but this year I stayed in Bend, which was packed with outdoor enthusiasts. In addition to the swim series, this past weekend they had a two-day 217-mile trail running relay race, a two-day bike race, a hot rod show, a dragonfly conference, and an "underground festival" in an (above-ground) park that was part rave and part craft show.
Many thanks to Bob Bruce, Pam Himstreet, and the whole COMA crew.:cheerleader:
