TYR Masters Grand Prix News Update # 1
Welcome to the 2007 TYR Masters Grand Pix Series. These updates will provide you with information about each of the meets in the series.
The 23rd Annual GRIN Fall Classic in Indianapolis is the first stop in the series. This meet takes place in the famous IU Natatorium, the “Worlds Fastest Pool.” The pool has played host to numerous Olympic Trials, Sr. Nationals, Masters Nationals and YMCA Nationals. In 2009, the natatorium is the site of the 2009 USMS Long Course National Championships.
Register early to avoid paying a higher entry fee. The fee is $40 if received by October 19th. After the 19th, the fee goes to $50. Need an entry form, go to www.TYRgrandprix.com.
The second stop on the TYR Masters Grand Prix is the Louisville Invitational. In its third year, this meet continues to attract a large number of swimmers from outside Kentucky. The University of Louisville is a fast two meter deep pool with 9 foot wide lanes. Online registration will be available later this week.
If the swimming isn’t enough to bring you to Louisville, consider Dave Brubeck. The U of L School of Music presents the Dave Brubeck Quartet in concert 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at Memorial Auditorium. Tickets range from $20 to $75. A block of $15 seats is available for UofL students or they may get a $10 discount for any other seating area. UofL faculty, staff and students (with ID) may buy up to two tickets each at a $10/ticket discount. Call 852-6907 for credit card purchases (a handling charge applies).
This year the TYR Masters Grand Prix is going to Chicago. After more than a year of negotiating, we have secured the rights to swim in the state of the art Myers-McLoraine Pool in the Ratner Center at the University of Chicago. The facility is a 50-meter bulkhead, 9-lane, 2-meter deep pool operated at 80 F. Online registration will be available soon for this meet. Note: the Illinois consolidate entry form will not be used for this meet.
Chicago is where the series high point awards will be presented. This year TYR has generously donated the Transition Backpack for our high point swimmers. There will be more information on the high point competition in the next newsletter.
Now is the time to check into airfares to the grand prix events. Southwest still has discounted fairs to Chicago from most locations
