Getting under 1:00 for the 100 Yd

I posted about 6 weeks ago asking for workout advice on how to lower my time in the 100 free. I am now down to a 1:02. I have been focusing on my kicking, my technique and most of my workouts are at race pace. I would like some workout advice on how to strengthen my last 25. I notice a considerable drop off in strength and my technique tends to fall apart in that last lap. Anyone have thoughts or advice?

All my times are from the push off of the wall. No block starts. My 50 split is about a high 28. My stroke count is 15-16 strokes per lap. I have been out of the water the past week with major back tightness that developed after last monday's workout. I might need to lay off the flip turns for a while. All the suggestions have been great. thanks to everyone for their feedback.

I bet that you're looking to much forward. I'm assuming the 28-high is from a push, in which case that is more like a 27-low from a block start. That's very possible to break 1:00 for the 100 from a block start. It sounds like your race should be split 28-low-31-low which would put you 59-mid. First 50 should be at about 95% effort and 2nd 50 is trying to slow down as little as possible.
  • I just broke 1:00 in the 100 free. Big achievement for a non-college swimmer. I focused on SDK, 6 beat kick and pain management. first 25--sprint but leave a little second 25--sprint but leave a little third 25--sprint THIS IS THE RACE! fourth 25--what kind of person are you? Grit your teeth, bury your head and take the pain. Stay disciplined. Keep kicking HARD! Next goal 0:58
