Well, that's a bit of a shame...

The coached workouts threads seem to be restricted to actual USMS members. Fair enough, I guess, but they've always been the main (possibly only) reason I visited the site. I got a lot of my workouts (mainly "Distance Free") courtesy of Chris Layton and Scott Hofteizer over the last 2 years or so, and tips from the other coaches. Thanks for making that possible, chaps!

Hi, what I found out till now regarding swimmers outside of the US and membership: looks like that an online-registration isn't possible if you aren't living in the states because of the missing us-mail-adress. But: Living in a foreign country you can register as an unattached member but you have to sign up in a self choosen area. I.E: As I 'm connected via my family with San Diego I choosed the LMSC – SAN DIEGO-IMPERIAL (SI) LOCAL MASTERS SWIM COMMITTEE (LMSC). There you can download a SI-USMS-RegMember-Form. At the same time I tried to contact SI but didn't get an answer till now ... perhaps people are very busy there ... I'll try it once more. To fill the form isn't the problem – all is written clear and easy – also for me ;-)) but I can't find an advise how to pay the membership fee. For the Online-registration you are guided and you can pay via Credit-Card but how about the other way for us foreigners. Is here somebody who knows more?

USMS card - I had to either send in my money by credit card or my mail. When it asked for my address I put it in for the credit card and because I did not have a US address it would not except my payment. So I contacted the PCN assoc and filled out the downloaded application form and emailed it to them then forwarded a check in US funds. They mailed out my card. I have tried to renew this year but being in Mexico I am not able to register again unless I put in a Washington Zip code when I try to register online. If it was not requested on the USA online registration form it would be very easy. As I say in my signature Keep it simple.

Seems fair, but it's a bummer. I'm not a cheapskate. I'm broke. My husband has been out of work since November. I'm barely hanging on to my membership at the pool I use. I'll join USMS when my finances change. Right now I have other financial priorities.
  • How to register if you live outside the U.S.: The "Registration" box on top page of site now has a new line, "Do you live outside the United States?" By clicking on that link, one is taken to a map, and by clicking on the area one is taken to the registrar (name, address, email) of the respective LMSC. This should help immensely.
