So here was a pretty tough practice that I had with the Senior I kids yesterday. Coach said we won't do this kind of thing too often. It's the beginning of the long course season although this practice was done SCY.
I don't recommend that any masters do it unless they are Dennis Baker or Chris Stevenson and I'm sure this would be a piece of cake for them.
I did, however, have a great time and maybe this will help me in the 5K and 10K postal. Maybe not.
Quick Warm Up
300 Choice
3x200 Right/ Left/ Drill/ Swim Free by 50s @ 2:45
4x125 @ 1:40 Free/ Fly by 25s
Main Set
50x100
1-10 w/ FINS @ 1:20 Odds: Dolphin Kick on Back/ Evens: Kick on Side
Held about 1:05 or 1:10 Easy/ No problem
11-20 @ 1:20 Catch Up Free Drill Easy/ No problem; held 1:10s
21-30 Free @ 1:15 Easy/ No problem; held under 1:10 (between 6-9)
31-40 IM @ 1:25; Started feeling a bit puky around #36; made all of them and had around 6 seconds rest for all 10; kicking myself for not focusing more on IM; here's where the kids either excelled or started to fall apart
41-50 Free @ 1:10; held 1:05s; feeling pretty bad around #46 but after all that, wanted to finish the darn set
Last little thing - 3x200 Free @ 3:00 #1 Easy/ #2 Build/ #3 Fast - the gal next to me went a 1:57 on the last one. She beat everyone in the pool.
I skipped dry land as I was "toasty." Felt back to normal after a shower and a drink w/ my husband.
I was really impressed with the kids. No cheating (very minimal and the coach yelled at them when there was some cutting corners like swimming free into the wall on *** in the IMs) and they left on the correct intervals. They gave it all they got. I went out too hard on the first 30 and I think that's why I had trouble with some of the IMs and the last 5 on free. We all high 5'd eachother afterwards. Was really nice.

No way! My pug whines too exactly at 4 AM - every morning!!! We now get up and feed him at 4 AM. He runs our house. We are terrible parents, I admit. What causes your pug to whine? Is it a typical thing? I know that he's an old fellow.
You were really going to scare me if you told me you got sick b/c of Scot's workouts! Now you know to not eat and then swim. That's made me sick as well - I ate peanut butter once and then swam one of my first practices with SR I and I about puked up a lung.

(S)he-Man and swimcat... don't tell Scot, but I have some of my best practices with him when I eat a Snickers bar and drink a Diet Coke beforehand. :joker: He'd probably tighten my intervals if he knew that. LOL
swimcat, I'm pretty sure Debbie will be there for the early a.m. practice on Monday. I'm guessing we will have more room in the pool since the nationals kids will still be in Sarasota. You should come to that practice.

Thanks swimcat. Waz fun. :woot:
Kristin and Chris Green did great as well. SWAT had a good showing.
That's right! Scot is out for Sarasota now. We will have Chris Davis instead. Uh oh.
Did you get sick b/c of the workout or were you just sick in general?
Scot took it easy on us the past two days b/c the kids have the meet in Sarasota.
Today's distance workout was

i am looking for a good picture of the pug, one when he was younger to use as an avatar.

I've used some Diet Coke too and it works wonders. Almost better than gel/ gu. Chris Green actually ate a snickers bar before his 10K and he did great. In fact, I plan to pack one and a pay day in the kayak for the 25K just in case.
in college, i lived off of twix bars and subway and sweet tea. now, my only vice is sweet tea gotta be chick fil a. oh yeah, and iced lattes. not the sweet ones, just the coffee chilled.(my italian grandmother is rolling in her grave over that one.) i don
Thanks Caroline. What are you talking about? You remind me of us - NOW! You had a great Y NATS meet! Do I see you joining me and Kristin for a 10K next year? Actually, I may join you next year at Y NATS. Sounds like fun. And puhleeze! Dahling, as I mentioned to you in the locker room at the UGA meet, you know you are one of the few who look fabulous in your FS PRO. Natalie Coughlin has nothing on you!
With your dedication, I think Scot can get you there. But focus on that PT for now.
Whining pugs are pain in the butt.
Today was kick day with Chris SR. Ugh. Give me fly or distance free any day. Kick. No.
Main Kick Set (with a board/ flutter and fly) was
LCM
1x200 @ 4:00
2x100 @ 1:55/ 1:45
4x50 @ 1:15; :55; :50; :45
4 TIMES
Waaaahhhhh!
Then we went to fly sets which seemed rather easy after that painful kick set. I did NOT make the 1:45 or the :45. I seem to remember swimming at that pace not too many years back. :lmao:

i am not sure why pugsley whines, i dont know if it is pain or dementia.
he slept all last night:woot:i told chris senior i got sick from scot's workouts sometimes, and he said he is getting to you. i.e. i am working.
in 2000, martin zubero trained me. he was coaching some masters before he went to bolles. i knew him before. anyhow, martin had the same effect on me. i think so instance, you guys pull certain sets and he gives me iIM sets instead so he coaches to the swimmer instead of the group. :wiggle:
martin spoiled me unfortunately. but because i was practicing what i raced, i did well:bouncing:. right now, pt is the important thing. i can't even do flys with weights over 3 lbs.

i am sleep deprived. i was up in north ga. yesterday to work and i almost fell asleep coming back.
u guys did great at the 10k. what an inspriation. kristina,u remind me of myself 10 years ago and Kristin, u remind me of myself 5 years ago(before the mishap).
my goal is just to be able to do 10x100 short course on 1:30 again, w/o fins, i know it doesn't sound like much but it is an immendiate goal.
