I just signed up for a 2 mile swim 6 weeks from now in a lake. I haven't swam very much in the past year, since a sprint triathlon last summer. I am looking for a gameplan to get me ready for the swim. My last open water 2 mile swim was in the Pacific Ocean and it took me about 55 minutes, but I was swimming masters regularly at the time.

Here is a good starter workout.
400 yard warmup( 8 laps)
4 100's every 2:15.
8 50's every 1:05
and then an easy 15 laps to finish.
Other than that run and get strong.
55 minutes was a good time for a two miler so it sounds like all you need to do is get into shape and you will be a winner.
