So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

Thanks Steve.
Today I finally broke 3min for 200m. It was right around 2:59.8....I'll take it. :)
I'm exactly halfway to my big goal of SUB SIX IN SURREY!!! (See my sig.) :)
First place in my age group at the Wild Fish 1/2 mile this morning! Good lord it was cold, I was afraid I wouldn't make the first buoy. ❄ Glad I did!
:applaud: :cheerleader:Congratulations, 'Badger! Way to go!

Wow!! Good for you!
I've done zero coached sessions / video analysis since SRD (Swimming Realization Day - February 21st, 2019), but now I am very happy that I signed up for a swimming camp (4 x 1hr Wednesday sessions) in September. The coach is awesome. I have so much to learn.
Sunday's water temps were cold enough I'm happy to have finished, when some folks didn't even start! 😄 (Mike will vouch for the chill factor, I believe...)
Holy crap it was cold. Thank goodness I'd been getting acclimatized. Felt just fine after the first buoy.

I think there's a fine line between "just fine" and "can't feel my limbs, so might as well keep swimming."
My dad told me the news anchor reported the ocean temps at 65+. 😒

Hahahaha. There's no way that was 65+.
I think I told this story elsewhere, but: Last Halloween I went to South Boston for a Vampire Swim. Water was 51F. I stood mid-thigh for what must have been 10 minutes, trying to find the courage to swim. I finally dove in, swam 5-6 strokes, and stood up and walked out before I died. I was cold forever after that.
Fast forward to April this year. I went to Revere Beach where it was 46F. Stood mid-thigh for 10-15 minutes. Dunked myself then got out. A couple weeks after that I managed 34 minutes in 51F at Winthrop. Several long (hour plus) swims in mid- to upper-50s after that.
Bottom line: I think with time to acclimate to the cold water, 58F (my guess for Saturday) can feel "just fine". ;)
I've been watching your saga on FB! And I know one of the guys who did the 5k on Sunday, who does absurdly cold water swims. So acclimation is totally possible, but a friend sent me this gif Sunday:

And I think that sums it up nicely. 😄
