Swim happy

So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week. Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:

A beautiful day yesterday, and a chance to get in some open water. Just a smallish pond, and some laps back and forth along the length of the beach (each lifeguard chair is about 25m apart, by estimation, and there's 6 chairs). I could have, by distance, gone right across, but I felt it was too risky without a buddy and no lifeguards. At any rate, it was so nice to be back in open water, the temp was slightly cool but fine, so I feel more confident about the race (less than 2 weeks away!)
  • I got pneumonia in March just when I had started to feel I had recovered from shoulder surgery enough to do full workouts. Our Association Meet was late this year, last weekend, and I thought I could be in reasonable shape for it. I can't say I felt in shape for the last half of the 200 BR, but the 50 and 100 BR felt good and it was nice to be back at a meet.

I'm thrilled with my new 800m PR today - 13:43 (down from 13:56). That 13:56 just about killed me, but today felt good and strong. My 400m splits today were 6:54/6:49. Hard to believe I swam 6:58 at my first meet a few weeks ago. (200m splits were 3:28/3:26/3:25/3:24). I'm happy about this pacing.

Great job, Badger. It's goodfor the soul, isn't it? Good luck in your race and let us know how it goes! It's the best. I'm glad it was finally warm enough! And on top of that, the gym's outdoor pools (they have an outdoor lap pool and a play pool/spray deck) are opening this weekend. I'll have so many after-work options soon. All I can do for the race is my best, and I plan to take a preliminary visit to the lake in the next few days.

Sheesh, King Frog, you call that a "Swim Happy" when you don't tell it like it REALLY is??? Forumites, this is what he forgot to tell you about that 50 and 100 BR that "felt good": KING FROG IS THE KING ONCE AGAIN! Congratulations, King Frog, for ranking #1 in the country in both events! :applaud: :cheerleader: :bliss:  :ohyeah::thewave:

Aw thanks Zwemmer. I have to say that I read this thread with glee. I wish there was a "like" button or something. Because quoting and responding to every post would be wrong!! :) But please, keep the happy stories coming. After much trial and error, I FINALLY FIGURED OUT FLIPTURNS TODAY!!! Ok, so I'm not perfect yet, and I'm not doing them on every lap. I need to ease into this. But to actually do a few of them reasonably well makes me so happy!!! I got over the fear factor, and the "motion sickness" factor. Oh, and my new 100m PR is 1:27.0.

Swam 6:35 for 400m today - 8sec faster than my previous best!!
  • Oh, and my new 100m PR is 1:27.0. If you are on your way to mastering the flip turn, expect that 100M PR to drop substantially (even if it's only one turn).

I've been dreaming about SUB40 for 50m for a while now. I've done about 40.5sec three times, pushing off. I'm sure that a dive-in would solve this for me, but permission to do so on my sessions has been complicated. (Busy lanes.) So, today I pushed off again and....... I swear it was 40.00000000sec. :) Would a dive-in get me in the 38s? What if I master flipturns? 37s??
