Hey Y'all,
I want to do something bigger in scope as far as open water that i have never done before. I have done many 3 mile open water swims and a 10K. I want to bump it up a notch and am looking for suggestions from people who have been doing it longer.
It doesn't have to be just a mileage increase either, just something unique. Like swimming the straights of Mackinaw or something. Just want to see whats out there.
Thanks.
there are some great organized swims including the barra - davies - cibbows 8 bridges. some excellent marathon swims include boston light swim and the pennock island challenge... the swim AROUND alcatraz is a resume builder certainly... tennessee's swim the suck and south carolina's swim around charleston. there are dozens more 5-mile+ events. you might target events in each of the great lakes. the lake minnetonka 5-mile swim proximate to minneapolis-st. paul is not an awful commute for you AND should have space. despite google & bing the minnetonka swim can be a challenge to find.
i learn of new swims every year and new swims seem to be held every year. you ask a good question.
if you have rogue swims in mind, go rogue with a kayaker. be safe and good swimmin'
