Did this story just disappear from the news cycle? There are no updates via Google since 9/06.What happened to the driver of the offending boat?I am not saying that the officials made a mistake(as I read once"nothing is foolproof because fools are so clever") but was it just the bad judgement of one person and how can it be prevented in the future.

any news on the accident? was the boat an escort boat for a swimmer / relay? the accident seems so careless and wreckless on the part of the boat operator. our capacity for stupidity exceeds the imagination. thoughts and prayers with the swimmer.

There is a picture of the swimmer (after the injury) here, with smiles. Seems like an unbeatable man. Hope he recover soon and get back to finish the swim.

Not sure how cancelling the solo division helps the problem of somebody running over a swimmer, taking both arms, and robbing him of any meaningful work prospects for the forseeable future.

seems relay swimmers would remain at risk... this seems like a huge f***-up by the boat operator, and small f-ups by a few others. john seems like a warrior both in and out of open water, and quite honestly, civil court action is up to the swimmer. Since I do feel at some risk as a swimmer in an open water event and this accident scares me, I would like to know if this person was charged with careless and wreckless operation of a watercraft. I do realize this was an accident. I imagine more than a few people feel like absolute crap over this mess, and if a few postings on a message board make you feel worse than you probably do not fear near as badly as you should. Let's all be careful out there.
