My club is putting on the 10K ow National Championships next summer.
I like ow swimming and think I would like to try the 10K.
I have completed several ow 5K's with no problem at all (I've enjoyed them)
My best time is 1:27 and i'm 54 years old. I swim about 15,000 meters/yards per week.
How much more would I need to swim to complete the 10K?
What type of training should one do to get ready for a 10K
The course is an easy double loop in a lake that tends to be non-wavy.
Any advice would be appreciated. If you think it would be a bad idea for me to do it please say so.
My biggest fear is shoulder injury and burn-out!

First off, hello. Thanks for all the good info in this forum, especially the open water section.
I've done several tri's, but last year was my first only swim race, the Horsetooth 2.4 mile open water swim. I did it in a wetsuit, and I did okay, getting a 1:10.
This year I'm going to do the Horsetooth 10k, which doesn't allow wetsuits, and with a average water temp of 65deg at that time of year, I'm getting pretty nervous. Anyway, I have no questions yet, just thought I'd say hi.
Oh yeah, the horsetooth swim, as far as I know is probably the highest 10k swim in the world at around 5500 feet. So cold water + altitude + 10k, sounds like a blast eh.
Oh yeah, and I typically don't swim more than around 2000 meters per week. I guess I'm like 95% cross training eh? My point being I guess, if I can do it, you guys can easily do it with swimming 15000 meters a week.
