Ok, so the more they email me, the more I get nervous about the water temp. Last year it was 69 which stung to get in, but it made for a nice swimming temp. By the end, though, my fingers and toes felt a little numb, but that could have been tired (??).
But this year, it could be up to 10 degrees colder?! What to do when the coolest water I can find here in Cincinnati is 80?
I always enjoy it and this year was no exception. The weather almost always seems to cooperate somehow. There were over 800 swimmers in the water this year and you could tell. Especially on the second leg of the second lap it seemed like there were constantly swimmers around me wearing several different colored caps. A couple times I thought I was going to get boxed out, but I always managed to find an opening to sneak through!
Kudos to Dawkins for swimming the channel less than 4 weeks before BS. What an animal!! Same for Michael Tschantz-Hahn who pulled in a 1:16 after a channel swim in July.:cheerleader:
Did someone classify BS as a sprint event to draw these guys?
--Nobody broke an hour at La Jolla this weekend for the 3 mile.
--It appears Dawkins got 3rd (the one who just crossed the English Channel and last spring did a 4:43 500 Free).
For a tale of the tape:

I report...you decide.
I don't understand the results. Tom would know better than anyone. ? He beat you by 8 minutes?
BTW: I'll take you up on the 100s...but screw it. Let's make it 100. :)
I believe La Jolla was quite rough this year. Lake Michigan was smooth.
Regardless of any of the other unsportsmanlike comments made about BS results, it's absurd to compare one open water swim to another. That's the nature of OW swimming, as you all know. And how can you compare pool swimming to OW?
BTW, has anyone talked to Andy or the BS organisers about this or is it just bitching?
True, they were a little uncertain there. I just turned 54. The announcer said wave 3 was 45-54, and wave 4 was 54-and up. I asked the registration people where I should go and they had no clue. They finally got the race director over and he made the call to go in heat 3.
I could see them giving someone the wrong cap or directions.
edit: OK, I see Chris posted. For whatever reason I didn't see that post before even though it says it was posted at 9:52 a.m.
Congrats to Andy Seibt. Hell of a swim!
We own a chip timing company. (we have done Boston/Chicago/lots of top marathons)
They should be able to go in the chip timer's system and see exactly when the chip entered the water and when it finished.(that's why you use chips)
I assume the reason we cross a mat before we enter the water is to make sure they know who went in what wave.
If anyone really doubts the results they should go to the chip timing company (whoever they were) and check the results. :bitching:
