Did you swim in Lake Michigan? Brrrr............. :agree:
Yes! In contravention of the no-squealing rule, a few gasps were emitted.
We probably won't be in regularly for a few days more, but it definitely counted as an inaugural swim.
No wetsuits, of course.
:)
Lake Michigan for me tomorrow. Ouch!
The lake is definitely on a warming trend. About 54 deg this morning at 6 a.m. I was in for 10 minutes. Air temp possibly 46-48.
(Reminds me of a saying posted on a zoologist's door: Swallow a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day.)
It was like swimming in a Vermeer painting: lake smooth as glass, sun just up, blue water, Delft blue skies.
First dip of the season! W*a*l*d*e*n P*o*n*d in Concord, MA. Chilly for the first 5 minutes but then quickly warmed up. Don't think I could have done it without a wetsuit. Saw some other swimmers out there.
I need to start going more earlier though. Had to dodge about 3 fishing lines.

I couldn't wait - mine was April 24th in L.I. Sound, temps in the mid- to high-40s BUT I was wearing the wetsuit my fasmily insisted on getting me for Xmas last year. I have to admit, I do like it - otherwise I wouldn't be getting in the water for at least another week or two.
The suit keeps me warm and comfy but my face hurts terribly for the first minute or two from the cold. I gasp and suffer until I get numb. Then I can swim for up to an hour without complaint. I like the cold, and will miss it once the water gets above 62 or so
I'm going to stop using the suit (hopefully) in about 2 weeks.
But, yesy, it's great to be in the open water again!
