Has anyone ever done the Alcatraz swim and/or aquathlon challenge?
I'm considering doing this in July. Do any USMS teams do this together? Would love to meet up with you if so!!

I'm actually considering this. I hate open water. I hate cold water. I hate distance swimming (which like Gill I consider anything over a 100) but this somehow intrigues me ...
Anyone know of a pool in the area that would be open early Sunday morning day of the race to warm up in? The ferry to Alcatraz leaves promptly at 7:45 a.m. As much as I love swimming at Aquatic Park when I visit San Francisco it's not so conducive to a lazy warm-up.
I am coming out from Wisconsin. Signed up on my birthday last Oct as a present to myself and been looking forward to it ever since. One of my bucket swims. Can't wait.

Checked Alcatraz off my swim bucket list about 3-weeks ago, doing the Alcatraz Challenge on July 12th. Had a very good swim, 62F which is warm for San Francisco bay, no wetsuit, I was very happy with the temp. Enjoy it! Make sure you attend and listen to any pre-race meetings on navigation. I found there advice very good, they gave navigation points to use based on your approximate mile swim times. It worked for me.
As several other posters have made mention, do make use of the two Swim Clubs & rowing clubs at Aquatic Park, The South Bay & Dolphin clubs for your orientation swims. They provide access to the public on alternate days; it’s just $6.50 for basically a private beach entry, showers and a sauna. Many times you will meet someone to swim with and have good conversation after you’re done. The picture of me on my posts was taken at the swim club beach in Aquatic Park.
