Kayakers vs. Swimmers

www.signonsandiego.com/.../13.html I swim regularly @ the La Jolla Shores and Cove and enjoy the kayakers. One would think that we can all get along. Accidents happen.

I only see a few at a time. Kayaks are good. They are almost as close to the water..not quite there yet.
  • In the times that I have swum in and around the cove, I have noticed that kayakers tend to stay near the shore and bluffs. Most swimmers tend to go to open water, because it is too treacherous to swim close to the rocks and bluffs. And I never wanted to try to go into the caves while swimming, although I would surmise that some do. Not to defend anyone, but how did she manage to get her teeth knocked out? the prow of the kayak is 6 inches above the waterline, and it does not say that the kayakers attacked her. I am having a tough time visualizing a scenario that fits, without either party knowing the other was nearby. Although I am an infrequent swimmer in the cove, I see this as a freak occurrence, not a trend. As surely as there are inexperienced kayakers, there are righteously indignant swimmers that will taunt the boats without provocation. Like a previous poster said, "can't we all just get along?"
