I know that there are sites/programs and maybe even tables out there for converting times from yards to meters.
But do they work for everyone?
last april I was able to swim a 200 yard pushing it hard but not max for a 2:03 which according to one site would mean I could swim roughly 2:17 at practice in a meters pool. today i pushed a 200 and hit the wall at 2:25 or so.
I started thinking about it for the rest of practice and decided that my yards times are much faster than my meters time converted because my body type benefits greatly from taking 2-4 less strokes/length as well as getting that break on the turn earlier.
anyone have recent times in yards and meters that could test any of the converting sites and see if they are even close.
here's the one I use more often

... Houston ... isn't so nice...I couldn't have said it better myself.

just got this answer via email
"The Zone meet is at the new Woodlands indoor pool – great facility! "
It is a nice facility. Driving to Houston at the end of July isn't so nice.
I will be out of town/country that weekend, so I won't be there, but feel free to drive up for the DAM meet in June. With lots of warm water, hot sun and little rest, it is a great lactic workout.

Think I'll be giving Woodlands a miss then, but am still planning on attempting the 200 fly at SMU in June:drowning:. Now I need to pick my other events (if any) - maybe its not such a good idea to swim the 1500 on the same day?
after a quick search I found the woodlands homepage and this link to the meet flyer

I like this part of the pool stats "down hill, both ways"

I don't want anyone to mistake my statement, the Woodlands pool and the area around it are great. Driving for 3 or 4 hours in 100+ weather, even with the AC cranked to max isn't appealing to me. The Southlake and Woodlands pools are of equal quality, but the Woodlands has tons more parking, hotels with kitchens across the highway, a large nice strip mall with quick food options.
I like Southlake better because it is 25 minutes from home :)

The meet was traditionally Friday/Saturday, last year it was Saturday/Sunday and this year it looks like it is only one day? If it is one day, the 1500 will probably be first as an early session with the main meet schedule to start "no earlier than" sometime, so only the 1500ers need to sit through that tedium. The water temp at SMU is not bad first thing in the morning, the 200 fly is in the middle of the meet, so if you deal with heat well, it shouldn't be any problem to swim both.
If you don't deal with heat well, I wouldn't swim both. There should be plenty of time between them, but you will need to rehydrate intelligently after the 1500.
Here is my write up on day 2 of the meet last year: forums.usms.org/blog.php
as soon as someone gets it verified where Zones will be please post it here.
I would much rather swim at USMS meet than a TAAF meet.
I'm currently Unattached, but if I can make it to Zones, I would look into joining a team. Only interested in swimming *** and potentially Fly and IM. but until I see an order of events I won't be able to determine that.
thanks
Ryan
You will like the Woodlands pool. You will enjoy the meet at SMU also, if you can come.
When you are in Dallas if you need a place to swim, feel free to come swim with us at Town North Y - every weekday at 12 noon, Saturday at 7am.
Finally, Waco is not that bad, you can water ski on lake Waco, hike and bike in Cameron Park, visit the Texas Ranger Museum and have a chicken fried steak and a Big O at George's. I spent two and a half years there when I was in school and we had a great time.

Thanks for the tips...I reckon Southlake is about 35/40 mins from me, maybe next year eh? As for the DAM meet, do they do an 800 free? My only motivation for the 1500 would be a possible top 10, and its a helluva long way to swim and come in 11th!
...now to prove I've not gone completely off topic: 1500m open water at 23.12, would convert to 1500m LC at 22.43 taking 1 sec per turn, then take off a bit more for better fitness and I might bring it in under 22 if I catch the current in the pool right.........

I would give Southlake a better than even chance at hosting SCY Zones 2012.
There is no official 800 free, but you can either split request or talk to Bobby Patten about adding an event number for it which would probably just be combined with a 1500 heat. I think there were only 2 1500 heats last year and the year before.
Thanks for the reminder, I came in 11th in the 1500 last year. :badday:

Cool - hopefully I'll be there then!

You know just after I posted it, I thought I could probably do a split request . Looking at last year's TT I reckon I have more chance for an 800 than 1500, maybe there are less on offer?

Sorry.....will now take foot out of mouth....
