South Africa swimmer Cameron van der Burgh cheats to win Olympic gold
This really saddens me.The idea "everyone is doing it so I have to" is how we got into the whole PED mess(as well as being morally indefensible.)
I am loving Olympic Swimming & Team USA. today was Day 7 & tomorrow is Day 8, the last day of Olympic swimming.
I hope that team USA will continue training & tapering for another week. I hope that soon there will be a special elite invite meet or time trial for Olympians & swimmers who are ranked top 25, 30, or 40 in the USA for 2012, or heck, just do it in practice next week.
I'd like it to be a 1 or 2 day competition where swimmers race 1 or 2 events, no prelim / semi finals / finals, just evening sessions, if swimmers race 2 events,
they get at least an hr rest between swims
I'd love to see:
Lochte & Phelps race the 200 IM under ideal conditions
Both fresh rested & ready
Ledecky race the 1500 & 400
Franklin 1 & 2 bk
Vollmer 1 FL
Soni 2 Br
Grevers, Adrian, Jones, & Phelps race the 4 x 1 fr relay to find out if this killer combo could beat Frances winning time
Plus a 50 M SDK race
SDK = Streamline Dolphin Kick
Who else?
What else?
Just a no pressure fun chance to swim faster, entertain a crowd, & American & world viewers who love swimming & are proud of our Olympic swimmers.
Would you watch?
Ande
Hey Ande! I stayed off this thread a lot of the time to avoid spoilers, so I am just getting caught up now..
I wondered the same thing. Gray??? BORING! And, not so patriotic. :shakeshead:
Back to the thread, thanks for doing such a great job keeping us all informed of EVERYTHING Olympic swimming! :applaud: All of the links you included in your daily posts were terrific- and, nice to have all in one place. Now I have a lot of catching up to do! :bolt:
You're welcome. There were some spoilers, we reported some results shortly after they happened. I like having all the links, they make it easy to find stuff, especially with Cell phones.
Why are our sweats Gray, Black, & Lime Green?

WOW thanks Andy for these and the links duing the olympics - i used them frequently.
The aftermath journey begins and where will it lead USA swimming? Certainly an incredible ending for this cycle and a great place to begin anew.
How about the Men's 50 Free semis? Elaine, I didn't see any posting by you about Cullen Jones yet. :kiss1:
:bolt:
Both he and Ervin did well in the top 3 seeded for finals. :applaud:
Hey James! I stayed off this thread to avoid spoilers. After Cullen's race on Friday night (I watched the tape delay on TV), I hit the sack to get some good sleep before Dixie Zone Championships, in Greenville. I just got back this evening and I'm getting caught up...
Cullen rocked the semis! That was an amazing tie with Cielo. And, I was happy to see him BEAT Cielo for the silver. But, as I posted on the "Black Swimmers" thread, I was ticked off :bitching: at NBC for doing a big story on Cielo before the race. Then, what REALLY ticked me off was talking about Ervin, but not Jones. All they said about Cullen was that he was "the OTHER American..." So, what did "the other American" do? He BEAT Cielo and BEAT Ervin and won silver.
:chug: Here's to Cullen Jones, a class act, AWESOME swimmer, and great guy. :cheerleader: And, yes, James, he gets a :smooch: from me next time if he lets me! elaineiakstravels.wordpress.com/.../
