Most of the time I swim in a community pool which has sufficient length but lacks a line on the bottom to keep me swimming straight. Fortunately I am usually the only person there and have some freedom for what I can do, so I have tried laying rocks but they are usually difficult to see unless I lay a large amount which is tedious to do each time.
I researched pool lights and most of them float and/or have crazy patterns. I just want a simple light which I can affix to the bottom of the pool quickly, and then remove when I am done. I prefer battery power as I am not too keen on putting a live power cord inside the pool.
Does anyone know of such a light, or any other solutions?
Thanks.
Thanks for the ideas all. The glow sticks isn't a bad idea as it works well even at night, though the last time I played with glow sticks they were disposal and you had to keep buying them. Maybe they have a new type that lasts longer than a few hours?
The tile idea might work during the day but at night they would be useless (:
I saw somewhere there is a glow in the dark rope, maybe I can set up my own temporary lanes using that....
Any other ideas?
I had a similar situation at one pool awhile back and I used 4 large dark tile squares(I had them left over from a bathroom project, but you can buy them fairly cheaply I believe.)You can put them down and pick them up quickly.
We used to have balck rubber brick shapes used for lifesaving searches under water. Rubber Hockey Pucks would also be good.
At Camp Akomak they took white wire to the bottom and the kids used that, You could also use black TV cable tied to two weights.
Just get a rope of sufficient length and two dumbell weights for each end to hold it to the bottom of the pool. Easily reeled up when done. Reading your first post I guess I missed the part where it needs illumination. Are you really trying to swim in the dark?
Geochuck has a great idea - they still use these flat plastic things on the bottom of the pool for lifeguards to do rescue searches with. Alternatively, you could find some thick twill strapping "tape" like you would use to strap something on to the top of your car with, and secure (temporarily) to the bottom of the pool with a few bricks or rocks to keep it from floating away - plus it would be an actual "line" to swim along. Usually comes in about 5-6cm widths.
