That's strange; you would think we would want to align the things. I supposed the proposal to change the age for yards also was defeated. Is it for historical reasons? I've been in the program since 1972, and wouldn't mind the age or relay change.

Apparently the relay thing had been tried before in SCY and, according to some, failed miserably (I don't know in what ways) so we went back. The relay records would have to be rebooted, and most didn't like that idea. Apparently the USMS relay age group scheme pre-dates the FINA one, so there is a lot of history there.
As far as the age-up date, nobody bought the argument that it would be "less confusing." (If you have trouble remembering your birthday, I guess you have larger issues to deal with than your age group...). Also the argument was made that the FINA system is unfair to some while the US system is unfair to others, so hopefully it balances out for most people, on average.
I also heard of a rumor? that the age for meets will be changed to the date of Dec 31 to be used for all meets in that season. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Of COURSE Skip would know. In the hospitality room I listened to him recite from memory the Convention host cities in chronological order. If I ever forget a time, I know where to go...
In the Records & Tabulation meeting, Walt said that there were even some records from that experiment years ago but he was doubtful we could dig them up, and suggested we'd be better off starting from scratch if the rule had passed.

i remember discussing the change of ages for relays in SCY, but I don't remember ever actually trying it. Does anyone know if we ever actually did SCY with sum of the ages?
