In a nutshell
"Anthropometric measurements of large populations show that systematic differences exist among blacks, whites and Asians. The published evidence is massive: blacks have longer limbs than whites, and because blacks have longer legs and smaller circumferences (e.g. calves and arms), their center of mass is higher than that in other individuals of the same height. Asians and whites have longer torsos, therefore their centers of mass are lower.
These structural differences, they argue, generate differences in performance. Using equations about the physics of locomotion, they analyze racing as a process of falling forward. Based on this analysis, they conclude that having a higher center of body mass in a standing position is advantageous in running but disadvantageous in swimming."
then what is race aside from a group of people in a certain area adapting genetically to their surroundings?
I think you hit the nail on the head and this is why the idea of race is invalid. The whole concept of having multiple races of humans is an attempt to force people into a finite number of buckets that don't really exist.

I believe that would be a population, which as I said is a scientific concept. Many different populations comprise each of the so-called races.

Yes, and over time it will become more difficult to figure out exactly which bucket to force them into.

ahhh you guys were too quick !!! i was only scared because the word adapt could trigger some.
also, i dont understand what you mean, gull. population can mean different things.

The definition used by scientists (ie population biologists).

This study, if even taken seriously to begin with, will be shot down in academia. The paragraph on taking race out of the equation is insightful.
Jim's comments on his "count," however, will go on in website infamy! ;)

A population is a group of organisms of one species (in this case Homo sapiens) living in a certain area.
Perhaps you should have stayed awake during freshman biology.
