specifically fly and free? I've always liked backstroke. I want to add it to my repertoire even though I'll likely never be very good at it. I notice it seems to tax my shoulders and legs in ways my body isn't used to - but maybe this is a good thing if it is strengthening my weaknesses?

Backstroke is also good for helping you figure out hand entry crossover issues on freestyle. It's nice to be able to play around with that without having to deal with the additional body movement complications caused when you have to move your head to breathe.

A snorkel is a better tool for this.
