Someone (accidentally) mentioned Ethan Hawke in another thread, so to round things out:

Not very p.c. by today's standards, and perhaps "dog" should be "shark", but the message is apropos.
My daughter and I have a few pre-meet song we play on the way each morning:
-Racing Day by the Backyardigans
-Go Go Go by the Backyardigans
-All Star by Smashmouth
Then, when she's on the blocks, instead of yelling and cavorting like most parents, I calmly tell her to "swim like the wind." We both know that it makes no sense but sometimes the perplexed looks from the timers make it worthwhile.
One last superstition, I'm not allowed to look at the clock until she hits the wall. Sometimes I have to tilt my hat to keep it from being visible but you do what you have to do.
I haven't done my first masters meet yet but I'm expecting her to follow all of the same rituals for me.
