Considering he had taken up swimming only 8 months before the Olympic trial, it was impressive enough. He could even dive off the starting block. :D

4 years later after this video. I don't think he ever did a sub 57. It could be possible, but I doubt it. The great Ion makes a compelling case about starting swimming later in life.
