Dropping 200yd IM time?

So, right now I go 2:31 in the IM, not the best, which is why I want to get faster. My splits are: Fly - 30 Back - 43 *** - 39 Free - 38 I don't have the decimals for my splits, but that's what the seconds are. My pacing is usually horrible, same goes for my turns. I think I'm pushing myself too hard in the fly, and not enough in the back. I have a little over a month and a half to drop 12 seconds to get to my goal, and it seems reasonable (to me at least). All help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • Oh yeah, this isn't exactly related, but how do I swim 200 yd ***? I keep being told to go 1:20 on the first 100, then 1:25 the second. My 100 *** time in races is always around 1:15 or 1:16. I think you want to swim it so that your splits on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th 50s are pretty consistent. It would be great if your split on the 4th 50 was the fastest of those 3. (I almost never achieve that.) Your first 50 will be the fastest as a result of being fresh and the benefit of the dive, but try very hard not to go out too fast. 200 *** is the toughest long sprint race. Pacing is key. Here's the splits from a race by world record holding and former Olympian Roque Santos from last year as an example of what I mean: 28.40 59.75 (31.35) 1:31.44 (31.69) 2:03.37 (31.93)
