So is my B70 Illegal now?

I'm confused on all this stuff about suits. I have a Masters LCM meet this Saturday. Is the B70 illegal? Is the FS Pro legal? I'm going to assume my poly is legal! I didn't get much use out of my B70 so I would have worn it one last time but am I correct in that it's a no go? Thanks!

BTW, Kathy Casey responded to my inquiry regarding my B70 suit. She said it and the FS Pro are legal for USMS meets this weekend based on USMS's statement. Also, one of GA's other officials reminded me that if I wear my B70, my times will not count for qualifying times for USS meets (like SR State). Something for me to think about as I'm also a USS swimmer. . .

puffkins, there was never any question to the fs pro. and if any ga official says there is they are wrong. see the fina list. from what i have been told, suits prior to 2007 are ok. the pro was a prior suit, and i don;t remember it ever having floatation values. i don't even feel like racing anymore, it is such a hassle and yes, paul s. , i am a wimp I'm going to miss you at the meet this weekend. I think you should have gone! You know, I think it's wear the B70 at my own risk. As it's the first meet of the LCM season I'm thinking that it may be difficult psychologically to start out with the B70 and then have to switch to the Pro or something lesser later on in the season. Plus, I've got an 11.5K OW swim the following weekend in which I'll be wearing a FSII or a Nike poly. . . So I think it may be smart to stick with just a Pro. . . Annoying, I finally got down to 15.9% body fat and now I have to stick with a suit that compresses. What it's going to compress I'm not really sure. . . Oh well.
  • I long for the 1970s and 80s when swimming was just about the personal attributes and not a bunch of junk from the suit makers. :2cents: Dolphin 2 And I bet to you swimming then meant the same as swimming now. Which is apparently nothing given your level of participation in the actual ACTIVITY. You sure talk a lot about swimming but..... And apparently you do not recall the level of outcry when the lycra suits were introduced. Go fix an elevator.

This whole tech suit issue has turned into a proverbial "Can of worms" and it's leading to more confusion and contention. Since FINA has allowed swimming to become more mechanized, there are now more and more technicalities and the rules are being sliced and diced to allow one thing, but not another, yada, yada, yada, yada. I long for the 1970s and 80s when swimming was just about the personal attributes and not a bunch of junk from the suit makers. :2cents: Dolphin 2
  • I guess I'll go to my next USA-S meet with a tight fitting practice suit and my Aquapel and see what happens.
  • B70 refunds: www.swimnews.com/.../6908 Not sure what the terminology "may not now be used to race in" means. It might only apply to new suits?
  • I heard from 2 different people(at least one of them is a generally reliable source) at our meet today that FINA plans to not allow WR submissions from national governing bodies(in our case USMS) that are not in compliance with their rules. If this is true our stance has to change.

I had a GREAT swim in my B70 today. And so, by the way, did Rich Abrahams in his B70. Rich told me he has been swimming in tech suits since 1998 and my first one was in 1999 (both Jerry Greenberg's offerings). We all had a little farewell ceremony for our great suits..... I don't think FINA could get the salt pounding right either. I wonder if Galen could apply for a job with FINA?

Allen, Could you please have your generally reliable sources forward to me any communications they have received from FINA substantiating their claim? I have not received any such communiqué and to the best of my knowledge neither has any other member of the United States Aquatics Sports leadership. Thanks!
