I'm confused on all this stuff about suits.
I have a Masters LCM meet this Saturday. Is the B70 illegal? Is the FS Pro legal? I'm going to assume my poly is legal! I didn't get much use out of my B70 so I would have worn it one last time but am I correct in that it's a no go?
Thanks!
I know how you feel. I was just reading the new updates from USA swimming and according to how I interpret the ruling my TYR Aquapel, Fusion II and Aqua Shift appear to no longer be allowed if they are down to the knee.
I too have a meet this weekend and would like to were my Aquapel short john but I may have to wear my short suits or buy one of the approved suits if I want to wear a knee suit. Since my reason for swimming this one is to pace one of my swimmers I may push the envelope and see how the officials react.
It's clearly not allowed in a USA-S meet.
I don't believe that USMS has provided any update since it's announcement on May 20th:
Date: May 20, 2009
At this point in time no suits should be listed as banned by U.S. Masters Swimming for pool or open water swimming.
While FINA has listed the 202 approved swimsuits, FINA has NOT listed the 10 suits that have been “rejected for not passing the tests of buoyancy and/or thickness” or made a ruling on the “136 swimsuits to be modified in accordance with “Dubai Charter”." Until FINA provides the definitive list of banned swimsuits and specific actions on the 136, we should not report any suit as banned in a USMS sanctioned event.
If you hear anything from FINA in contradiction to this statement, please inform me as soon as possible. The list of FINA approved suits can be found at: www.fina.org/.../index.ph...=2389&Itemid=9. The FINA press release can be found at: www.fina.org/.../index.ph...390&Itemid=108

it would be helpful if USMS made a statement.
This is not “THE” formal statement, just an update FYI…
The USMS Executive Committee met this evening and voted to not follow the new USA Swimming swimwear rule. Or in the nomenclature of our rule we voted to repeal the new swimwear provision.
This means that the current interpretation of the Rules Committee stands, which is:
“FINA approval or rejection of new swimsuits introduced after September 30, 2007, will be accepted by U.S. Masters Swimming for USMS sanctioned and recognized competition. ” The 202 suits approved by FINA and the 136 that are to be retested are still considered legal. The 10 suits that failed FINA testing are considered illegal. Legal suits introduced before 09/30/07 are still legal, without needing to be on the FINA approval list.
.
Times achieved in USMS legal suits may be submitted for FINA top 10 and records. The FINA Masters records chair will continue to accept record applications as he does today and will continue to do so until such time as FINA directs him to do otherwise. Unfortunately I can’t be any more definitive than this, since FINA records are under the jurisdiction of FINA, not USMS.

I'm with Pat on the USMS portion of his comment. For masters, they're both legal. I don't know squat about USA-S meets other than Geek is looking for little kids to DQ, so tell them to watch out.
The official U.S. Masters Swimming interpretation of the swimwear rule as proposed by the rules committee and approved by the executive committee is now available here.
This said LZRs and TYRs are OK,but is the Nero Comp in or out?
Um. . . so this all means I should wear my FSPro to be safe and skip the B70?
i would wear the pro, i think it will save everyone a lot of headaches in the end...
besides, haven't you done some smoking fast times in the pro anyways? :)
I guess it's nice that the B70s are at the moment legal for USMS meets, and if that remains true I'll probably wear mine at my upcoming LCM meet. But I think I'll feel a little like a cheater doing so, knowing that the suit is illegal for both FINA and USA-S purposes...
I could be wrong on this, and if so, I am sure someone will correct me.
The way I understand the situation is that FINA has not finished the testing on certain suits so no official ruling has been made to ban those suits.
USA-S acted by stating they would only honor the current approved list. What I object to about the USA-S ruling is that if it is an old suit, not on "the list", woman can't wear it if it is even knee length.
USMS adopts USA-S rules unless we specifically vote not to. That has been done. The Rules Com and the Exec Com voted not to follow the lead of USA-S. Therefore, we are still at the same place we were for Clovis and SC nationals.
I do not believe FINA has been clear about "banned" suits and probably won't be until the testing has been finished.
My conclusion is that suits worn at SC national are still legal. The Rules Committee also stated that this could change at any time if FINA makes additional rulings.
