Why aren't we seeing questions and discussions about the World FINA championship problem? The issue is apparently that Sweden was the only nation to volunteer to host the 2010 world championships - but Gothenburg Sweden does not have a site with two 50 meter pools in the same location. So the meet will be apparently be conducted in two separate pools in different parts of the city. Our and probably many other teams will be impacted by separating male and female swimming events. It's not only team cohesiveness and support, but the important role of our coach that's affected. He can't be in two places at once. Our team from Reston was planning to have a good turnout - but now those plans are cancelled.
I hope to contact USMS officials to see if any other options are possible - even startiing early in the morning and ending late at night.
If anyone has further info or insights we'd welcome hearing them, because my wife and I had looked forward to this opportunity.

There's actually a thread going in a different part of the forum about the 2010 World Masters meet in Sweden here:
2010 Worlds in Sweden - U.S. Masters Swimming Discussion Forums
You're not the only one that's less than stoked about the male/female split. If you can figure out a way to make the meet make sense I highly recommend finding any excuse you have to visit Sweden. I lived there in the late 90's and I love it.

There's only 3 events most days so even if you're spread between 2 pools you might not be swimming the same days anyways. And don't let public transit get you down, it's outstanding in Sweden.
here's the source of the schedule just in case it changes: www.2010finamasters.org/.../Browse.jsp
All that said I don't understand why worlds can't be short course meters instead. Yah, long course is fancier and more "upscale" but the problem would be solved by swimming short course.
SCx(x=yORm) is more about starts and turns (—potentially—15 out of every 25x)
LCM is about swimming.
Resurrecting this thread to mention I was on the Worlds website and they've posted how the pools will be used. Women swim in the Valhalla pool the first day (800 free day) and then they alternate from there. The Valhalla pool is the nice indoor pool. The other pool is shallow (1.1 to 1.8 meters), outdoor, and probably not real fast. Relay day, of course, is at the Valhalla pool exclusively. Most of my favorite events fall on the days where the men are at the slower pool. That's the breaks, I guess!
6000. . . ?!?!?!? Wow. That has to be one of the bigger swim meets that has occurred. It must have generated a lot of income for local establishments. I'm trying to imagine what warmup was like- a washing machine full of locusts? I wonder if the turnout for 2010 will be similar.

The Italian Worlds was even bigger than Stanford's.Stanford had 4 warmup pools and warmup was fine.No idea how it will go with evidently 2 warmup pools.I wanted to go to Sweden but the 2 pools was a deal breaker. Now to find that one of the pools is slow makes Puerto Rico look better and better.
