I am just back from the SPMA meet where all the top finisher were wearing the latest generation tech suits, mostly B-70s(or were named Jeff Commings.)I have here to for been in favor of the suits, but now I am not so sure.First, they eliminate the old bench marks.I went my fastest 100m BR in 5 yr in my LZR,but it was only .3 sec faster than I did untapered 5 wk earlier in my first swim in the LZR.So was my swim good or not,I'm not sure. Also, instead of focusing on technique or pace I found myself ruminating over aspects of the suits, how many more swims did the suit have,is it the right size, was the reason I didn't get better results from my B-70 because it was too big?etc. The B-70 has somewhat mitigated the "too expensive, not durable" problem, but for how long.
Lets say a company comes up with a suit that is much faster, say 4 sec/100.Further that it is very expensive(say $1000) lasts 4 swims and is very hard to make so that quantities are always limited and the fastest way to get one is to bid up to $3000 on ebay. Now lets say your nemesis has one,or that getting one is your best chance to get TT or AA or a ZR or WR,or that your child is close to making JO cuts,or finally beating his/her nemesis etc. Is it worth it and where does it stop?
Again, so you're saying that Phelps is an idiot?!?!?!?!
He wore an LZR legskin and he wore a full body LZR...did you have blinders on during the Olympics or are you just being an idiot?? :)
Geek will be happy! We're back to idiots and dipdongs.
TJ, Phelps wore a LZR, just not a full body one in his longer events. So he's not an idiot.
Only half an idiot since he only wore half a suit?:agree:
100% couldn't agree more.
If you choose to not use and believe you will be just as fast if not faster without it...then yes you qualify as an "idiot"...

If you choose to compete and wish to be as fast as you possibly can be and have access to approved technology...but choose to not use and believe you will be just as fast if not faster without it...then yes you qualify as an "idiot"...whether your in the pool, on your bike, in your car, on the track of flying a plane it's all the same.
This post qualifies as two things:
A - well written and true, word
B - endorsement of the multi-sport lifestyle
100% couldn't agree more.
There is no debate on any level that you will swim faster wearing a suit such as the B70 or LZR.

bottomline is:
If you're trying to swim as fast as you can and you don't wear a tech suit
you're an idiot.
100% couldn't agree more.

they will save that for a video...master's gone wild
(S)he-Puff and Elise are (why? lol) bringing their husbands. But Heather R. and I will no doubt sit around and braid each other's hair while discussing how we are abject failures as domestic goddesses.
With the gaggle of female forumites in attendance, Wolfy will be sure to reconsider coming ...
People need to stop posting well reasoned things. It's disrupting my resolution for 2009. Then, I've discovered that (She)Puff, the Poem Maven and Country Ellie Mae are sharing a cuddle sack in Auburn.
Another speedy forumite (from a rival MN high school, no less) is also shacking up with us.
I've warned Elise to leave the 1950s cookbook at home. We need to pay sharp attention and make sure the pool gets measured correctly. Oh wait, that's (S)he-Puff's job as she's getting up early to swim the mile while the rest of us lazy no good sprinters sleep in.
Oh, we will all be clad in tech suits.
Thanks Geek, but people are going to start talking!
