One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
Can it be the last installment please, for the love of the forum?
Hopefully, it will be, because that would mean sanity prevaled at our pool! :D
But, Geek, you don't have to read this thread or my posts. You know what my posts look like, so why don't you just stop reading all posts in blue Comic Sans? :applaud:

Feh. She's on topic for the thread.
I like the installments. They get me riled up at the injustice and the stupidity of the world. Nothing like getting riled up to start my day right.

Thank you, Philo! :applaud:
You probably come through as a very positive role model. They probably are (marginally) more attentive and (again, marginally) more focused during their actual swim sets...
Thoughts? Ideas? Rebuttals?
I had an interesting conversation with my daughter last night - she's 6 BTW...
R "Mummy, I want to do swimming again in the summer. First I'll enter the IM"
Me "Good for you - I'm glad you like your swimming"
R "I think I'll keep swimming until I'm maybe 14, then give up"
Me "Why do you think you'll give up when you get to 14?"
R "Well maybe I'll carry on until I'm all grown up - like you. Yes that'd be really cool"
And she then went on to ask if I would be swimming at the state championships again next year. At which point I said I would if she did!\
....and now back to noodler-bashing.....
No noodler problems for me, but there was a rather "interesting" class going on in the 2 lanes usually reserved for lap swimmers today. A group of women were doing a couple of lengths bad freestyle followed by tricep dips and the like on the side of the pool. I went in the lane next to them - They kept looking over at me suspiciously...as I did back to them :laugh2:
Thanks for your great ideas, but actually, the ATAC masters (of which I suppose I am a member) has no real coach - only papers placed on the end of the pool & seldom does anyone enter a meet. Besides, I don't feel like the people who swim with them are actually, um, strong enough to swim, well, with me. I know of one sweet child (age 29) who went to SCM this Spring & I almost joined her, but had just started a new job so....oh well (she actually trains with the kids, which I am seriously considering, but my son would KILL me!). We have workout "groups" - which are usually at lunch (and termed the lunch bunch) which is cool if you can leave your job at lunch! I'm doing good tho - I race the kids, the clock, the snails, whatever I can find! And I don't have to share my lane with any noodlers! They are restricted in our pool! (Can you believe that!)
Nothing wrong with swimming with the kids. I do it and it keeps me young :)
I think many of you should take mellow out classes.:bump::bump:
Two more weeks and I will mellow out with some Margaritas. Me the not to sweet lime ones, my wife the Mango Margaritas.

I know this isn't probably the place to ponder this - but I wonder what the effect is psychologically on an adult swimming with the kids like you are and vice versa. Both yours and their behaviors are (in my opinion) BOUND to altered, especially if you're not just some slow lady who HAPPENS to be in the pool with them.
My guess is the fact that you swim with a bunch of fast energetic kids has actually pushed you UP in your speed closer to your theoretical limit. Not to mention - like you said, they keep you young because they probably accept you as "one of them"
In the reverse I can imagine the children probably act (marginally) less stupid. You probably come through as a very positive role model. They probably are (marginally) more attentive and (again, marginally) more focused during their actual swim sets...

I enjoy the stories, but the large blue comic sans text has got to stop.
Why? Because you say so? And, because there a few others who don't like it? I've received more positive comments on my choices than criticism. Several PMs I received were just about that and nothing else. So, unless Jim (or anyone else at USMS) removes these font and color options (and Smilies) from the forums, I will not change a thing. The way I see it; the options are here for a reason: Be creative, be an individual. Perhaps THAT is what the problem you and a few others are having with my choices, more than the choices themselves.
