swimnews.com has an interesting article about Amaury Leveaux's 21.38 50 free European record:

Leveaux's drop from 22.80 to 21.38 makes him somewhat of an anomaly among the 200m competitors in that 200m contenders (ranked 3rd in 2008) aren't normally competitive in the 50m event (ranked 2nd all time). Perhaps he's been training for the wrong event?
The great Karnak predicts that regardless of FINA, swim suits that allow you to swim faster than sans suit are here to stay.
Hold on to your goggles, things might get interesting.
Speedo claims its suit can improve performance by up to 2 percent. TYR, based in Huntington Beach, claims the improvement of its suit is up to 4 percent.
Not that one should take manufacturer propaganda too seriously but it would be interesting turnaround if the TYR suit turned out to be significantly faster than the Speedo suit and it were the Speedo sponsored swimmers and teams that had to make difficult choices.
I not going to say that im surprised by this but this really did come out of no where. Levaux went from not even being a factor in the 50 to being the second fastest man ever. Bernard went 21.76 last year so you could at least see 21.5 as a posibility.
New WR set for the 50m fr 15.90 I think this is an amazing race, almost hard to believe. No LZR racing suit www.youtube.com/watch
I didn't like his style.................... Knees bent too much. Low elbows. Head (way) too high. Not aerodynamically positioned. ...............
