Ryan Lochte has a some freestyle skills. Aside from his 4:12 for the 500yd free and 19 low for the 50yd free...he can sure sprint! MANCHESTER, England, April 9. THE United States' foursome of Ryan Lochte, Bryan Lundquist, Nathan Adrian and Doug Van Wie blasted the men's 400 freestyle relay world record at the FINA World Short Course Championships. The quartet clocked a time of 3:08.44 to surpass the 3:09.57 set by Sweden back in 2000. Lochte went out in 47.09, while Lundquist split a 46.64. Adrian (46.57) and Van Wie (48.14) completed the record-breaking swim. The splits were as follows for the Swedish team in 2000: Johan Nystrom (49.04), Lars Frolander (45.69), Mattias Ohlin (47.87) and Stefan Nystrand (46.97).

Are they wearing LZR suits? I'm not sure, I've been ignoring the whole LZR discussion. edition.cnn.com/.../ Yes LZR suits, so the GB, Aussie 4x200 womens' relay both by far under the WR by several seconds !! 6-7 !! The Dutch used the new TYR.

The craziest stat I've seen regarding the race is that the team put together in Manchester is probably the third or fourth-best that the U.S. could offer. That's just insane.

A French relay team (without Bernard and Leveaux it seems) went faster than this at the end of last year, but FINA does not recognize the swim as the swimmers were the first four of a 10X100 relay. www.swimnews.com/.../displayStory.jhtml

As WR go this really was quite weak. Averaging 47.1 is nothing special, there are probably 50 swimmers in the world who could approach that. There are probaly two full relays squads in America alone that could beat that record. Anyhow, VanWie did not wear a lzr, everybody else did, though.
