2008 USMS Message Board Social in Austin at SCY Nationals

2008 USMS Message Board Social in Austin at SCY Nationals :party2: We agreed we should definitely have a gathering so these will take place an hour after the last relay or around 6:30 ish Friday: Shady Grove www.theshadygrove.com Saturday: Moonshine www.moonshinegrill.com Sunday: Scholz www.scholzgarten.net 2 blocks from the pool (the closest bar) I'm thinking Friday or Saturday night to maximize numbers Where ever it is people can just pay for what they order We need to pick the Date Friday or Saturday which do you prefer? Time I think early would be better than later like around dinner time or maybe an hour - hour and a half after relays are done and Location: I suggest somewhere in Central / Downtown Austin that serves both beer and food. if we want to be outdoors we need to watch the weather that day Walking Distance from the Pool + Scholz BierGarten is very close to the pool also The last of the Austin Texas Beer Gardens, open since 1866, and the oldest restaurant in Texas , and two blocks from the University of Texas. www.scholzgarten.net + Brick Oven Pizza on Red River + Serranos on Symphony Square Red River at 11th is pretty cool short drive: + Shady Grove is very cool, www.theshadygrove.com + Iron Works BBQ is nice in a rustic way www.ironworksbbq.com + Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill www.moonshinegrill.com 303 Red River St Austin, TX 78701 (512) 236-9599 "Good American comfort food done well with a fantastic ambiance and great..." + Some where on 6th street Other suggestions Please chime in, let's settle this and have a blast Since I'm here I'm happy to see if we can get a reservation Let me know if you plan on coming so I can get a head count Ande
  • Jim, Considering that I have been sick for the last month and have done very little training, I'm not that worried about it. Plus Friday is only 2 events both sprints. Paul
  • Ande, Would it be easier if you just picked the place and the night? And people can show up if they want. It seems that any night would be good for most. It would seem to me that Friday night would be best because most will be there by then, and Saturday night people might need to get a little more rest after 2-3 days of the meet... just some thoughts. If I go, I'd love to meet you all :] Karen

However, I do plan to dine all three nights and generally prefer company, especially since I have no family in tow! Alternatively, you can plan one forum fete for Friday and another for Saturday at x and y restaurant and whoever shows up, shows up. Maybe a poll is needed for attendance purposes. Maybe we can start another thread for the Sunday Post Meet Blowout? Can't make Thursday lunch. Will be flying in. But I know several of us flying in Thursday who want to hit the pool and grab a quick dinner that night. I think Hulk should give up golf if I have to give up running.
  • Fort, If I go, I too will be "alone". Always looking for food company, although I will have my best roomie Patty Landers with me :] She's a lot of fun! We'll be at the Embassy Suites North, I think. I've been sick since the beginning of March (sinus infection, bronchitis, etc.) and I'm swimming absolutely horribly (as evidenced by the last two meets I've been in!) I just started antibiotics and will be done with them in a week... I'd hate to go all that way to still swim horribly, although to meet everybody would be tempting anyway :party2: Karen If I knew the names of all the hotels I'd post a poll to see who's staying where.
  • I think Hulk should give up golf if I have to give up running. Let him go golfing. We'll hit the pool and grab dinner and :drink: or :wine: without him.

Don't worry about being sick!! I almost always have sinusitis and bronchitis in April. And if you're not sick, you're injured. It's masters. Good you got antibiotics though! Hotels: Double Tree Club, Hampton Inn, Drury Inn, Hyatt Place, Embassy Suites, Crowne Plaza. I'm at the Hampton Inn. I know Jaegermeister, Julie Opl, and Jeff Roddin are staying there too.
  • I'm in. Either night good for me. I've never been to Austin, so I have no idea on restaurants. But what about the Sunday blowout, eh?! I know some of us are staying over Sunday night (aquafeisty, swimmieavsfan, peg, Paul Wolf, etc.). :party2::party2::party2:
  • I'll probably be able to make it. No strong preference for one night over the other at this point. No Sunday blowout for me. I'm flying out Sunday at ~6 p.m.
  • a sunday blow out is a possibility though I may have another events to attend I considering hosting a Thursday lunch at the UT Club it's kinda fancy and they have the best buffet in town http://www.utclub.com/ that would probably run $20 - $25 per person Would anyone be interested? • Ande, you have chosen some great restraunts. I up for almost anything. Foodwise that is!
