3 School Records Go Down As Jackets Sit In 2nd Place After Day 1 Of ACC Championships
Yellow Jackets break school records in both relays tonight; Noah Copeland's leadoff time in the 800-free was also a new record.
ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech men's swimming team broke school records in both relay events and is in second place after the first night of the ACC Swimming championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Wednesday. The Jackets broke school records in both the 200-medley relay and the 800-free relay. In addition, junior Noah Copeland set a school record of 1:35.79 for his 200-free leadoff time.
Virginia won both events tonight and leads the way with 80 points. Tech is second with 66 points, while Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech all have 60 points.

The ACC Men's Championship runs through Saturday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Prelims begin daily at 11:00 a.m. while finals will get underway each night at 7:00 p.m. Thursday's events include the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and 200-free relay. Friday will feature the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-***, 100-back and the 400-medley relay while the 1650-free, 200-back, 100-free, 200-***, 200-fly and 400-free relay will take place Saturday.
Admission will be free for all fans. For those who can't make it, live streaming video and live stats will be available through ACC Select.

Congratulations to Noah. That time would be good enough to make our 4 x 200 free relay at Louisville. Rob, are you sure he is your son? That is a lot of fast twitch considering you are his father.
I think Noah is going through his youthful rebellious period. Rather than conform to the legendary Copeland distance reputation, he was heard muttering the following when he left his house for the semester, "Let's see what Dad says if I become a sprinter! I may even post a reaction time less than 2 seconds to further embarrass the family..."
:joker: Just kidding, Rob. Keep us posted. WebJim, Mark and I couldn't beat that 200 free time if we did a 3 person relay doing 25s in a short pool with fins, hand timing and rolling starts.

Noah’s reaction time is still faster than his fathers…
And yes the last 50 looked a bit ragged. I think it is after effects of yesterday’s 2 500’s. But he went after it. And he was able to anchor the 400 MR in a 43.35 (slow reaction time again) and good enough for 2nd place.
Today, he went 43.92 (rt 0.80) in the prelims of the 100 free and is second seed into the finals.:cheerleader::banana::cheerleader:

Good luck to him. That's some fast swimming, especially since I'm sure the water was quite wavy on that anchor leg.
It pains me to admit it but UVa had two excellent meets (men and women), and their 1st-years looked particularly strong.
Richmond natives and freshmen Liz Shaw (UVa), Tyler Harris (UNC) and Ian Voigt (UVa) had some good swims (especially Liz: 3 A-cuts, 2 ACC records. Sheesh.) Great kids, too.
