Would you rather be a runner?

OK, how many people on here would rather be a runner than a swimmer, but due to injuries or something else have been forced to turn to a sport that has less impact on the body? I swim as cross training for running. I found that every day running did not work for me(although I would love to if I could) but 3 times per week does even with high mileage. I do love swimming and the feeling after a good workout, however, for me, it cannot compare to the feeling of running. It is so much more relaxing and provides better "thinking time than swimming".

I agree with Fort. Swimmers definitly get in a "zone" I think the signature event is now the 400 IM. It is the ulitmate test of speed, versaility and endurance. I would rather swim 26.2 miles than run a 5k. I know triathletes that skip swim days to run or bike cause of their disdain for swimming. I am willing to skip most things to go swim. It provides pleasure, peace and quite. badnees, it's great that you love running so much and I hope you have a long running life.

No, actually from years and years of basketball. Running has actually helped my knees because I've been forced to address some issues in order to keep running. With basketball you can get through a game with straps, ice, etc, but you can't do that through a 2 hour run.

Thanks WOOKIE, I hope to have long swimming life too. I hope you aren't trying to kick mne off the board:cry::cry: No..not at all! The great thing about masters, the people come from diverse backgrounds into swimming, like you from running. I was just saying that I hope you have a long, healthy running life, since you love the sport. It's great that you have that love of running and are trying to share it. Please stay and enjoy the board like the rest of us do:party2:

Second, all runners will someday state "if I get too tired during a race I can always stop and walk." Good luck doing that with swimming. I think that is maybe what stud does on his backstroke flip turns, as a counterpoint to my assertion. No that would be stop and ask for directions...the rest pause is spillover benefit! You don't run because Mrs Geek doesn't let you go past the end of the driveway. At least at the pool she can watch her little soldier from the deck...have you gotten up to "monkey, aeroplane, soldier" yet?

I LOVE to swim......I'd love to be able to run. I've tried numerous times thruout my life, but never managed to get beyond 2 miles.....either fell and sprained ankle, ended with back spasms, felt great pain in knee......finally just decided that my body is NOT made for running. And of course I'm trying again (from Couch to 5K in 8 weeks program).......sigh. Just would like to compete in one triathlon in my life......
