Good Hotel Pools

I travel a fair amount for business and am always looking for hotels with a legitimate pool, i.e. not something that resembles a hot tub. Thought others might have the same problem so thought I would start a thread to keep everyone informed of my experiences and others can post theirs too. Atlanta - Marriott Marquis (downtown). They have a pool that is oddly shaped. Not rectangular, closer to a large triangle, about 15 yards on each side. You can't really do laps but can hug the wall and swim almost in circles, assuming no one is in your way. Boston - Copley Square Marriott (Back Bay). They have a legit 25 m pool with lap lanes. Indianapolis - Courtyard Marriott (by the Capital). Their "pool" is probably less than 10 m long. Don't waste your time.

(Best Western Concorde Inn of Clinton Twp MT Clemens) has a either 25yd or meter not really sure which pool with about 4 lanes. nicely lit and also has a full locker room and fitness center. Nice hotel. aimed actually at buisness travelers and at that pool was the last time I got to go swimming.. (6 months ago).. I would definently reccomend them.

The Executive Inn in Louisville, KY has an indoor six lane 25 meter pool. With out additional outside pool as well.
  • Quick input here. I rarely travel, but we are in Boulder for a college visit with our son and nephew. I saw a book entitled The Athletic-Minded Traveler in the Title Nine store in Boulder. (My wife was pretty excited to see Title Nine "in the flesh", having received their catalog for several years.) Here's the Amazon link: www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_1 From the first review: Jim Kaese and Paul Huddle have given us a reference work, not a discussion of what it means to be an athletic-minded traveler nor how to become athletic minded if you are a traveler doubling as a couch potato. Mind the subtitle: 'Where to work out and stay when fitness is a priority.' If a reference book for your or your travel agent is what you need, this is your book. Cheers, Skip Montanaro

Hawaii (Big Island - Kona side) Four Seasons Hotel. 4 lane 25 meter outdoor pool with pace clocks. Singapore (I go there all the time for my job) Don't need hotel pools becasue the city has 21 outdoor pools. Most are 8 lane 50 meters. It costs 1 Sing Dollar to get in. They have lap swimming (mostly) from 0600-2100 straight through. If you time it right, you may be able to swim at the Toa Payoh (sp) complex with the Singapore national team. Only problem is the water is REALLY hot because Singapore is about 100 miles south of the equator... so plan a workout where the heat won't be as much of a factor.
  • Was in Minneapolis last week for work. I reviewed the hotel I stayed (The Marquette) at over here: www.flyertalk.com/.../showthread.php The hotel itself doesn't have a pool but allows guests to use the downtown YMCA. I used the pool there twice, about 2500 to 3000 yards each time. I heard there is a masters group that uses that pool, but I rather enjoyed swimming on my own a few times.
