I train in Speedo briefs but find that after about 2 to 3 months they start to get threadbare. Have considered buying a size up so that there won't be so much tension on the fabric and, therefore, hopefully won't deteriorate so quickly. What does everyone else train in?

TYR also makes a nylon brief(like we had in the 60s).They don't last quite as long as polyester, but they are cheap and I tend to lose them before they wear out.
Question - Why does the suit spinner wear suits out faster? I use it daily and my nylon suits last about 9-10 months. Maybe if I didn't use the spinner they would last 12 months?
I've worn a polyester TYR trainer (loose fitting, mesh) for over a year and it does not show any sign of deterioration. I wear a lycra speedo under it to avoid :mooning: the lifeguards.
Among others, I use the speedo endurance suit. I put it in the suit spinner regularly. Still lasts forever. I think I've had mine for over 1 1/2 years. The liner started degrading. I ripped it out and kept wearing it. Finally, the seams burst. I can't say I like the fit as much as other suits, but it lasts forever.
It's not the suit size that is causing your problem - it's the fabric. You are probably wearing a suit that contains lycra or spandex. These fibers deteriorate in chlorine; three months is about all I can get from a suit that contains lycra.
What you want is a suit made of 100% polyester. It will last at least a year in chlorinated water.

TYR jammers. They have proven to last waaaay longer than Nike and Speedo brands.
No stretching or wearing down of the fabric. As Anna Lea said...the fabric makes all the difference.
Are we allowed to talk brand names on the forum?
And also, they last much longer when you avoid throwing them into the suit spinner.
Wear them in the shower for a good rinse after each swim and they should stay virtually new for at least 6 months.
The 100% polyester suits would last forever except the seams end up giving out, as mentioned by Fortress. My TYR poly mesh drag suit just split the seam at the crotch a couple weeks ago. Other than that you'd think it was brand new! I guess if you're a good seamstress maybe they will last forever.
I always used to use 100% nylon suits. They last quite a while, but fade in color quickly. Don't use a suit that contains lycra for practice purposes.
The suit spinner wears out the threads faster than with just normal rinsing and drying.
I use lycra EQ suit for working out. The suits last forever. Have some that are over a year and a half old and I can still wear them. They are a bit stretched and faded but that is it. I have worn polyester but I don't like it as much. I love the EQ suits. I usually get their grab bag and enjoy seeing what they send me when the bag arrives. I highly recommend everyone try them out (no, I don't work for them)
