Women's Locker Room

Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.
  • I like both the knee and full length but for different events. For short sprints I like the full length, for distance I like the knee better. I have different sizes too based on where my weight is and event short events I go smaller and long events alittle bigger. Don't like as much compression on the chest for the 1650 or 1500.
  • The boys are always barging in! I love the B70 for breaststroke too. If they take it away, I'm done with it as an individual event! I will cry if that happens- I have no other individual events! I have long legs and a very short torso, so all my weight, and strength, is below the waist. For some reason, I am also very dense (as my friends will undoubtedly agree, albeit in another way) and am negatively buoyant, so I have to work pretty hard to keep from swimming like a wedge. When I put that B70 on for the first time and my legs popped up out of the water I was shocked, but learned very quickly that it was heavenly to swim in that body position. Am trying to work on it w/out the suit, but it is HARD because my legs are like anchors.

They are, however, very strong and feel like dead weights when I do breaststroke without the B70. It could also be that they only like to dolphin kick ...

I only wear tanks because I"m slow and would look like a bit of a goose in a "fast" suit :) I have a new cow print one which is a bit small so I apologise in advance to the volunteers who sit behind the starting blocks in Indy
  • Dead legs?! Muscles just get too scrunched and freak out? I don't think I know about this phenomenon ... I had huge issues with this at nationals. Too much compression - could not sit in my suit for hours or I had really dead legs, like no kick at all. It's awful. I've learned to put on my suit at the last possible moment and get out of it quickly as well.
  • And you look divine in all of them. At a minimum, however, I'd like to cover up the endless bruises I get as a result of being a huge klutz. Aw, thanks. Coming from you, that is a huge compliment. My parents bought me a kneeskin for my birthday so I will be trying out something longer soon. Hm.. there is a swim meet 2 days before my birthday. Maybe I can get it a bit early.
  • No, plenty of people still wear lycra or polyester tank suits. You will look fine in whatever you are comfortable in.

does anyone swim in a basic suit any more (besides me?) I have not competed in about 6 years, and all this talk about various suits has me worried about going to another meet. Will I be totally out of place in an old fashioned Speedo swim suit?
  • There is a locker room lady in one of the pools I go to who has rigged up a big towel body tube. (ankle length towel with an elastic bound top) When she is ready to change she goes under it, head and all! She takes her clothes inside with her and wiggles the suit off then puts her clothes on without coming out. I worry she might lose her balance some day and topple over! The thing of it is I would never watch her if she just changed like everyone else. It's just kinda funny watching her headless form wriggling and dancing around trying to change inside a small tent-like tube. Maybe she had a grandma who made her feel like everyone is watching her in the locker room!
  • MMMMM, I've never understood the mania for covering up in the locker room. When I was growing up it was a total non-issue. No one used the changing stalls even when they were available. It's a locker room after all. However, I teach seniors in HS in the town where I live and swim and let me tell you, the whole "seeing your English teacher naked" thing is a doozy! I do try to keep aware of any students in the room and I try to be a bit more "modest" when they're in there! CRINGE!!!
